2012 IOST at University Limerick - A great success!!
The 2012 season will be remembered as a rainy one, chasing us out of our initial IOST grounds in Jordanstown and moving us to the all weather pitches at the University Limerick. SI Secretary Adrian Crowe worked hard with just three weeks notice to secure the pitches and while the season was a rainy one the rain over the IOST weekend was minimal. With perfect field conditions, great weather all the teams that were there, including the UK team, the Stingers who had players visiting from as far away as Vancouver, all had a great time. The play on Saturday was topped off that night with a 9-inning all-male game under the lights while spectators cheered and hooted from the bar overlooking the GAA pitch.
The bowl winner was made up of a made up from a few different teams from the Leinster League called LUST (Leinster Unified Softball Team). The Plate winner was Marlay 2, one of the three teams that Marlay enterered into the IOST. The winner of the Cup competition was the Limerick Originals over the Stingers who didn't seem to be off their game at all after an abbreviated Munster League season due to rainouts. |
